Seeking Plan for Largs Cemetery, Dalry Road
« on: Thursday 15 May 14 15:36 BST (UK) »
Hello - North Ayrshire Council were very responsive in giving me lair details for some relations in Largs Cemetery, Dalry Road (Also called Haylie Brae).  My folks are in Section T.
Please does anyone have a plan for this Cemetery (which is large) to help me find section T, or does anyone know if there is a map or plan posted at the cemetery?  Are the graves marked with the lair numbers?  Thanks in advance.

Hi greenrig,

if no-one answers with details I use this 'trick'. Look up the Commonwealth War Graves site,
http://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead.aspx?cpage=1&sort=name&order=asc
find a grave near to your section, there are memorials in Q,R,S, from that it is sometimes easy to work out where your section is. Most stones then have a number engraved on side, or plinth showing sect and lair. It works for me when in strange cemeteries. Hope it works for you. Failing that you may find a groundsman on duty if during working hours.

Thanks for this. Council say there is a map/board at Cemetery entrance - we'll see!

But the tip re Commonwealth War Graves is a good one.  I was able to look up the database and get names/date for the forces burials, with section & lair numbers.

I can now answer my own question, and for future reference, I attach my own photo of the plan of Largs Cemetery as posted at the entrance.  The sign is on vey high poles, and the section letters are tiny, but this plan may help others.
