Hi Dee

No, I don't have his death certificate, I'm afraid.  Just started on this line.
Thanks for the lookups on FreeBMD.

I'm starting to think he must have come from Ireland and isn't in any of the censuses.  Not another Irish one! ::)

thanks for your help
Shelley

Welcome to RootsChat, Chelsea.    :)

I've checked the censuses for 1881, 1891 and 1901 for the family above.

In 1881 they are at 1 Factory St, Manchester, Lancashire.
John Ryan is an unemployed dye house labourer, while wife Bridget is still listed as hawker.
The children with them are ....
Mary Ryan   13
Annie Ryan   11 (Hannah)
John Ryan     9
Catherine Ryan 4
Elizabeth Ryan 17 mths
(Ref = RG11/4004/79/47)

1891 sees them at 12 Holden Street. John is still a dye house labourer and Bridget a hawker.
Children with them are.....
Catherine Ryan 14 (servant)
Elizabeth Ryan    11
Ellen Ryan      6
(Ref = RG12/3247/99/16)

1901 and John is not with the family, though Bridget is still listed as married, and a hawker on her own account. They are at 6 Baptist St, Manchester.
Children.....
Bridget Ryan    50
Alice Ryan     9
Nellie Ryan      16  (Ellen)
Elizabeth Burns 27 boarder, married......is this daughter Elizabeth, I wonder?
(Ref = RG13/3754/13/24.)

So putting all the children together from the various censuses, there are

Mary Ryan c 1867
Catherine Ryan c 1868
Hannah/Annie Ryan c 1870
John Ryan c 1872
Catherine Ryan c 1876
Elizabeth Ryan c1879
Ellen/Nellie Ryan c1884
Alice Ryan c 1891

Not 12, but some could have been born and died between censuses. There are quite some gaps between a few of them.

I wonder where john is?
Its took me so long to get this far, all i knew was my grandad Thomas Magee was in the army as i found an army bag in the coal shed where it had been for 50 years, along with pictures of all his family and friends, and a load of letters, with the address 1 Frederick place, Collyhurst Manchester also  i also have an address for kerry farm charlestown county mayo.  I am now trying to piece it together, not very easy as he told everyone he was Irish born and bred  ::) I am more interested in the Magee side, but I cant find much out, if anything :(

I really want to thank you for helping me, i am determined to find out where i come from, as im the last magee, sad really, so if you have any tips? I keep getting side tracked on every site :/

Much love Michelle x

Ahhhh, Chelsea.....welcome to the addicts club!    ;D

There are two Bridget and John Ryans in Manchester in the period 1871 to 1891....the couple whose family I've posted on here.....and the one on that thread.

I read it that you are descended from Alice Ryan.....am I correct? Have you obtained Alice and Joseph's marriage certificate?

RootsChat is a great place to get help, so don't hesitate to post a thread about the McGee line. Just remember to make sure it is correct for your family.

Unfortunately John RYAN is such a common name, it won't make your search easy.

FreeBMD has the marriage for Bridgett Barret and John Ryan....

Dec Qtr 1866
Bridget BARRETT
John   RYAN

That marriage certificate may help you trace the family further back.

I can also tell you that Alice's father John RYAN must have been away from the family in 1901, as he's back with Bridget 10 years later.
I'm sending you a PM (personal message).
