Would anyone know that if a will was written by person who was a Romany and had married someone who was not was it normally a given that the will would have been given to the Head of the Romany group to take action on it when she died a widow with children? Lookin2

The person to "take action on it" will be whoever was named in it as executor, once Probate has been granted .

The note stated it was given to H...............a well known Irish name  who destroyed it.  It did say this " his brother married a gypsy and was disinherited "(frankly do not see any cash/property that was owned).  This was in the 1800's and really trying to find out if Gypsy Law was different to how property/items were passed down and not necessarily written by lawyers.  Of course this could just be one of those family stories.  Lookin2

Hi,
Has stated before Probate, as for Gypsy Lore, No person would of inherited anything it would of all been destroyed,  the Vardo burnt to ashes with all of the deceased's personal belongings inside, china would of been smashed " very unlucky to drink or eat from a dead persons utensil's" pots and pans all would destroyed and sometimes this would leave the remaining family with nothing but the clothes that they stood in even the horse or donkey would be killed or taken to the knackers yard, any gold or silver would perhaps just be thrown in a river, there would be no squabbling over who get's what, even the deceased's name would not be spoken and in some instances if a relation had been named after the departed then they would change it to another,  that was Romany Lore, you stood on your own two feet, if it's any help.
