Andrew McNutt~Publican 1861
« on: Wednesday 21 July 04 01:07 BST (UK) »
Am looking for information on Andrew McNutt who was listed as a "Publican" on his son William's marriage certificate in 1861 in Lancashire, England.
William McNutt  is said to have come from Ireland in 1856  to Blackburn to be a "Minister's Tailor"(?). He married Deborah Taylor in 1861 in (Over) Darwen Lancashire when his occupation was listed as Tailor. We are having some luck tracing his descendants but are looking for info on Andrew, William & where they may have come from in Ireland. William was born c. 1837 perhaps in Donegal
Any leads, suggestions gratefully accepted ???

I realise this query was posted three years ago and galena hasn't logged on to the site since last year but there's no harm having the info ready and waiting for her when she does log on again. I think she's right about Donegal although the Griffiths Valuation extracts on John Hayes website shows that there were McNutts in Derry and Limerick as well on in Co. Clare.

There are three Andrews listed in the Donegal Valuations which took place in 1857. They had property at

Figart, Clondahorky.
Carnashannagh, Fahan Upper.
Main Street, Dunfanaghy, Clondahorky.

Hello Christopher,

Thank you for the reply, Galena and I are related even though distantly, we are both still searching for McNutt's.  Family tales of William McNutt coming from Donegal were proved true, in 2004  we paid for a search by the Donegal Ancestry and found our family.

We now have the marriage of Andrew McNutt to Sarah Richardson in 1833 at the  Presbyterian Church Dunfanaghy, Donegal, names of their parents and witnesses. Also a baptism certificate of William their son who is our direct descendant and came to England.

As yet we have been unable to find  any of the parents of  Andrew & Sarah. Andrew McNutt's parents were William McNutt & Catherine Culbert and Susan Richards parents were John Richardson & Sarah McKinley.

Andrew McNutt rented a property in Figart and another in Main Street Dunfanaghy, this information we found in Griffiths Valuations.

I appreciate your help Christopher and apologise for not posting our findings here earlier, any information is always gratefully received.

Hi Christopher,

I forgot to add that we also have death certificates for Andrew McNutt & Sarah McNutt formerly Richardson.

Andrew McNutt died  1884 aged 88 (born about 1796)

Sarah McNutt formerly Richardson died 1879 aged 80  (born about 1796)

So the search is on for these two births.

Thanks Rathmore I have had a quick look but not found what I am looking for. It is a good site to save as you never know one day I may find something.
