Australian soldier's memorial
« on: Wednesday 05 November 14 20:59 GMT (UK) »
Thought people might be interested in this memorial to an Australian soldier located in Rake Lane Cemetery, Wallasey. Possibly a local lad who emigrated?

How odd that his country isn't mentioned - I presume there was a rising sun on the upturned brim of his hat?

I wonder if a rellie will find this.  Do hope so.    :)    Good find!

Got to admit it was my five year old granddaughter who spotted it.  She said "There is a cowboy over there". Bless her! :)

Age:23
Regiment/Service:Australian Infantry, A.I.F. 27th Bn.

Cemetery:A.I.F. BURIAL GROUND, FLERS
Additional Information: Son of William Purser Robertson and Ellen Elizabeth Robertson, of "Sandhurst", Sandford St., Magill, South Australia.

So I wonder who of his family placed this memorial in the cemtery at Wallasey

Had another look the other day.  No camera with me sadly but seems it is his mother and fathers grave his memorial is lying on.  Assume they moved to the Wirral from Liverpool at some time?
