Tramore, Waterford
« on: Friday 25 August 06 22:23 BST (UK) »

Please can some one give me any information on the Shanahan family from Tramore.

I am looking for a Mary Shanahan born abt 1878, who came to liverpool and married

William George Ashley, around 1907, at Toxteth Park, West Derby.

She died around 1911/12, any help you can give will be much appreciated.

   Regards Tom.

Hiya Tom and Goggy,

That's strange Goggy. I read Tom's message in a different way to you.
I thought Tom wanted information about the family whilst they were in Tramore.
Tom omitted to tell us that there have been several posts regarding this family
on the British-Genealogy.com website. It looks as though we need to look for the
Shanahan family in the Crobally / Tramore area of Waterford. It's beyond me why
we were not given this information in the first instance. I spotted this as I thought
it would help if I looked for "Shanahan births, Tramore".

G'Day Chris!
Don't know the area's too well at all in your patch Chris,so advised on what I do know.
The sites recommended do have an amazing amount of info;sadly not too much help to me!
At one time there was a list of all Churche's AND the names of people of the congregations, that has gone off the radar though.
Don't worry about the mix up,every little help's when you have nothing much to start with!
            Regard's,
                    Goggy. ;) ;D

Hiya Goggy,

I'm not making much progress with this one. I could not find the congregations you mentioned but found a query about Morriseys and Shanahans of Tramore on the Curious Fox website. There are Shanahans still living in the area and I know a Rootschatter who lives in Tramore. Should we ask for some on the spot assistance?

Chris

Hi all,
Ok- thecore.com/seanruad tells us that Tramore is within the parish of Drumcannon.
Next, go to the most excellent Waterford County Library site; choose 'online resources' at the top.
Now you have the choice of browsing through Griffiths valuations, inc. maps(!) , (click on multimedia); and even census returns.
There are many Shanahans to choose from , and several in the correct parish.
Tramore also refers to a district electoral division, so maybe the search has to be widened, depends on whether the original info given by Mary Shanahan referred to Tramore itself, or the wider area of the D.E.D.
Hope this much helps, it's quite exciting looking through this site, even though my own ancestors are not from that particular part of waterford!

Good luck,
Mags

(Go to 'register of electors' and you'll see another list of resources, one of which is 'census information'. )
At least I think that's right, I've seen this site loads of times before, but only realised today what else there is on here, it's great, but takes a bit of navigation round. Have fun!

Dear Tom,
You're welcome! Particularly so now I know you are a Morrissey - my grandmother was a Morrissey, the family came from the co.Tipperary/Waterford borders near to Ballymacarbry.
Good luck,
Mags
