I think the John & Elizabeth you found in 1871 are a different family -and here they are in 1861
Coal Yard Earl lane Sheffield
John Hadfield head M 70 Coal Dealer Darley Dale Derbys
Elizabeth wife 60 Ashover Derbys
RG9 3489 104 6

Ok, that's fair enough. So John Hatfield in somewhere else in the 1871 census then.

please let us know when the certificate arrives

Suz

Certficate has arrived this morning.

Clara Ann Hatfield, born 5th June 1860 to a William Hatfield and a Ann Hatfield formerly Ibbotson!

Marriages Jun 1850
Hatfield    William        Sheffield    22   513
Ibbotson    Ann        Sheffield    22   513

It's a good job i did get the birth certificate as there were 3 Ann's in that entry as mentioned by someone earlier in this post.

I can not for the life of me spot them on the 1851 census, i have done a search with just a William born 1820 in Sheffield with wife Ann, but nothing is jumping out at all. I can only see the other family with a William and a Mary Ann.

I received the marriage certificate today between William Hatfield and Ann Ibbotson. William's father is John Hatfield, a gardener, as expected. Ann's father is a filesmith Abraham Ibbotson.

I have found Abraham Ibbotson in the census returns in 1851 and 1861 and then he passes away in 1869 (with help from the NBI). He was born in 1791. - I can not find his birth using findmypast or familysearch so not sure what to do there - on the returns it always says he was born in Upper Hallam.

I can see Abraham marries an Ann Sarson in Sheffield 1813, who's parents are William and Sarah Sarson.

Ann Sarson passes away as Ann Ibbotson in 1871 days after the census was taken.

I would like if possible to trace the Ibbotson family back, the Hatfield line in Darley Dale i have researching in another thread. To move forward i am looking at finding...

A baptism record for Abraham Ibbotson in 1791, Sheffield / Upper Hallam
A marriage record for a William Sarson and Sarah before 1791 when Ann was born.

I hope you can help! Thanks in advance!
