John Morgan Davies
« on: Monday 08 February 10 11:26 GMT (UK) »
Hello, I am researching Dr. John Morgan Davies and would love to find out more about this gentleman.

To date I have,
1881 Census, Class RG11, P390, F104, P2, GSU1341084

John Morgan Davies, age 30, head, Surgeon, M.R.C.S. England, born 1851, Carmarthenshire, Wales.
Ellen Annie Davies, aged 30, Wife
Gwilyon Chas Morgan Davies, aged 5, Son
Hugh St. John Morgan Davies, aged 1, Son
Elizabeth Davies, aged 21, Domestic Servant and Cook
Mary Jane Best, age 17, Domestic Servant, Cook, and Nurse

British Medical Registers showed that John Morgan Davies of 9 Finsbury Square, London EC, was registered on April 19th 1881.  He was qualified M.B. Master Surgeon in 1879, M.D. in 1884 at the Aberdeen University, MEM in 1879 and a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1882.

On September 11th in the year 1920 the British Medical Journal featured an obituary on Dr. Morgan Davies,

The death recently at Aberystwyth of Dr. MORGAN DAVIES, of London, has removed a man who was very highly esteemed in Wales among Welsh people resident in London.  He graduated M.B., C.M. Aberd. in 1879, and L.R.C.P in 1880.  After holding the appointments of house physician, house surgeon, and resident accoucheur at the London Hospital, he settled in practice in London, and had long resided in Goring-street, Bishopsgate.  In 1882 he took the F.C.R.S. Eng., and proceeded to the M.D. degree in 1884.    The Welsh Outlook in speaking of him said that there were “thousands of Welsh homes in London in which his devotion and skill would always be remembered and blessed.  Had he not been a doctor he might have made an immortal name for himself in literature.  The little he published appeared in out of-the-way places, but those who read his work will never forget its distinction of form and substance.”

Any help in filling in the missing gaps is appreciated.

I've tried another source for census. The page the family is on is missing from Ancestry.

1891 91 New North Road, Shoreditch, RG12/246 folio 4 pg 2
John Davies head mar 40 registered general pract of medicine b. Carmarthen, Carmarthenshire
Emily A wife 32 b. Kensington
Gwilym C M son 13 b. Shoreditch
Digby G W son 9 b. Shoreditch
Robert G Fryer 21 assistant regd gen pract of medicine b. Warwick, Warwickshire
Harry packer 19 dispenser student of medicine b. Nottingham, Nottinghamshire
Elizabeth M Mitchell 19 housemaid b. Shoreditch

Hope this helps. The cert from the second marriage would give you details of his father if you don't already have them.
