Marriage Lookup GOODWIN/NADIN Alstonefield 1798
« on: Monday 26 May 14 13:44 BST (UK) »
I have previously seen a transcript of the marriage of

William GOODWIN with Sarah NADIN at Alstonefield on 3 May 1798.

I saw this on the old familyhistoryonline site before the datasets were transferred to FindMyPast. I wanted to check the details but I can't find this or any other info from FFHS datasets on FindMyPast since their "upgrade".
I would be very grateful if someone could check the PR's and/or BT's for me and let me know if I have the names correctly and also if there is other useful detail like BOTP or witness names etc.

Thanks a bunch, Irene

Thank you Jackie. It was kind of you to look but I had checked familysearch. My source notes tell me that I saw the entry on familyhistoryonline. Their records went to FindMyPast. So now they don't appear to be available on line at all. I was hoping that someone might have a booklet or CD of Staffordshire marriages. According to GENUKI, "A transcript of the registers for the period 1538-1812 was published by the Staffordshire Parish Register Society in 1902 and has been reprinted by the Birmingham & Midland SGH." Does anyone have a copy or know of one at a local library?

Thanks, Irene

Hi Irene,
In the 1851 Census are William/Sarah born c 1778 Staffordshire and 1776 Derbyshire?
Children seem to have been Christened Quarnford 1799-1819 on F/S.Org

F/S has a Sarah NADIN Christened 9 November 1777, Ockbrook, Derby to WM/CHARITY

Marriage/ William Nadin & Charity Berkin, lic. 13 Jul 1775

FreeREG has a few possibles for William Goodwins Baptism.

Trish :)

Thanks Trish. I had seen these things but was keen to have a full transcript of the marriage record. There are a lot of GOODWINs and NADINs in the area and it's quite possible to have the wrong people.

I noticed that the GENUKI entry for Alstonefield was last updated 14 years ago! Surely some things must have changed since then - like the availability of the church records.

Oh well, this one will have to wait a few more years.

Thanks a bunch, Irene

If you can wait until July then I can go to Lichfield archives and look at the registers.  I'm currently on holiday in France.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Well, now that's very kind of you. Yes, of course, I can wait. These folks aren't going anywhere. I'm just trying to confirm a record transcript that I saw a few years ago. It would be an extra bonus to have all the details like witnesses etc. I'm very grateful.

Have a wonderful holiday!
