I think you mean the gap in the 1700s? Yes, I noticed that - the family may have gone elsewhere (eg somewhere near Grimsby!) Or it may be that the PRs are illegible at that point.

Certainly there are entries on PRs that haven't made it onto the Notts CD. It can be extremely hard work trying to decipher some of the older ones. I would not feel satisfied that they WEREN'T on the relevant PR until I'd seen it with my own eyes.

that of course would mean a trip to Nottingham records office. Are you able to do that? Mind you, you will have to be quick - they are closing end the end of this month, for 6 months!

my thoughts exactly with the parish records and moving theory. unfortunatly unable to get to nottingham due to work and family. thanks for your help,a bit cheeky but can you tell me if joseph and his wife elizabeth are buried at st swithins church east retford,he died 1 march 1856 and she died 15 march 1847,if you cant it dosent matter many thanks glyn

Nope - those burials aren't listed anywhere. I've double checked and there were over 300 burials listed at St Swithun in that time period, so Joseph and Elizabeth must be elsewhere. Are there any civic cemeteries around there?

Maybe you could post another query or two--

maybe someone will be going to the records office and could check the PRs for you

maybe someone will know about any civic burial grounds around Retford.

I'm afraid I'm not local enough for that sort of knowledge!

There are a couple of deaths registered on Free BMD at E. Retford after 1861 census.
Sept 1863 7b/5 George Warburton

 This one Dec 1861 7b/5----(yes same volume & entry number.)
There is a burial for at Hayton
19-12-1861 George Warburton aged 4 months abode Clarborough.

There are only 2 Warburton burials at St Swithuns
26-11-1877 William abode Turks Head Yard
14-7-1887 Elizabeth abode Turks Head Yard.
