Marriage lookup: Harry family, St Stephen by Saltash
« on: Sunday 03 August 14 09:47 BST (UK) »
Hello - I've found a couple of marriages at St Stephen by Saltash which I think may be brothers:
m. 19 Oct 1808, St Stephen by Saltash: John Harry & Mary Tucker
m. 16 Feb 1809, St Stephen by Saltash: Richard Harry & Susannah Ellery
In the 1851 census John gave his place of birth at St Ives, whilst Richard gave his place of birth as St Ive (which is much nearer Saltash than St Ives). There was also a Robert married to a Mary a couple of doors away from John in the 1851 census who also gave his place of birth as St Ive.

If anyone is able to look up the 1808 and 1809 marriages and see who the witnesses were that might help establish if they were brothers or not.

Many thanks
Richard.

Hi
Saltash Heritage hold the parish fiche for St Stephens - in fact the whole of the St Germans Registration District. If you email them at

archivist@saltash-heritage.org.uk

they will have a look for you.

What years are they born on the 1851 Census?
Have you tried CornwallOPC, Familysearch.Org and FreeREG for possible Baptisms?

Trish :)

Hello both

Thanks for those suggestions. I've e-mailed Saltash Heritage - thanks.

I have checked FreeREG, Cornwall OPC and FamilySearch, and there is a sequence of baptisms at St Ive from 1778 to 1797 children of Robert Harry / Harris, although the mother's name fluctuates between Jane / Sarah / Mary. These do include a John in 1778, Richard in 1783 and Robert in 1788, which fit reasonably closely the ages the John, Richard and Robert gave in the 1851 census (and Robert and Richard in the 1861 census too), but with the fluctuating surnames and mother's names I'm trying to find as much evidence as possible to see if I think they are from one family or several similarly named families who happened to live simultaneously at St Ive. (Maybe it was one man with seven wives - oh no, that's the other St Ives...)

Thanks
Richard.

Thanks
Richard.
