Madeley Parish Records
« on: Wednesday 23 June 10 21:26 BST (UK) »
Does anyone know where I could purchase a copy of the parish records for Madeley/Madeley Wood, Shropshire?  I can't seem to find these records on any of the current CD/fisches available.

Thanks for your help

I can't think of any fiche or CD's except for the SFHS marriage and burial index CD's but I'm not sure whether Madeley is covered by them. You can order films of Madeley parish records from the LDS libraries at the cost of £7.50 for 3 months per film. You will need the film number to order (library catalogue on Family Search).

Access to the PRs for Shropshire is pretty poor. Only a small number have been transcribed and those were done in about 1913.

I think the only option to get them on demand is to ask the LDS or Shropshire Archives if you can buy fiche. I don't know if either will oblige in that though.

Thank you all for the info - I'm after christening records for the Madeley parish between 1886 and 1920 for children christened of parents named James and Margaret Harris particulary a boy that we know as Rupert that my have been christened as something else (these parents had a habit of doing this) I am unable to find a birth register under the name we know him as.

The theory is if I can find someone I don't all ready know about from these parents he maybe be the one I'm looking for so therfore I can research him later on in his life to see if he is the one I want.

Florence born 1910 on 1911 census
Catherine born 1911  on 1911 census
Hilda born 1912 although actually daughter Marys child died 1912 I have certificates
Francis Harold born 1913 died 1913 I have certficates

16 children I have certificates for all and documentation that states there were 22 children.  The only other name I know for certain is Rupert but I can't find any reference to him.  There are at least another 5 children possible a Joseph and a Harold but not sure of these.  So you understand why I need to see the parish registars for any more christened that have parents James and Margaret Harris, they were married in 1886 and she was rumoured to have been expecting and looking at the dates  there is room for more!

James died in 1928 so I am assuming the list stops before then!!!!!!!

There were at least two generations of James Harris in Madeley, both butchers (in 1829 and 1835 Pigots). Other forums would suggest Margaret is Margaret Buckley.

Yes Margaret is Buckley but the James are different ones - its a long story but they are from a different branch of the family.

Basically James the butcher is my gt gt grandfather on my paternal grandmothers side and the James I'm particulary interested in is my gt grandfather on my paternal grandfathers side - yes my fathers parents were both Harris' and related!
