Sarah Calde. Daughter of William Dax of Alberbury?
« on: Thursday 22 May 14 15:42 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I am researching my 4x great grandfather William Dax born c.1809 in Alberbury. From what I have found out so far he was married 3 times and had 13 children. His first wife was Ann Williams who died in 1832 after bearing 3 children. Then came my 4x great grandmother Hannah Bowdler from Copthorne who bore 8 children and then died in 1853.
His 3rd wife was Mary Fallows from Prees and she bore another 2 children.
My query is this; I have stumbled upon a marriage of a Sarah Calde of Alberbury that married Richard Reynolds on 23 March 1856 that names William Dax as her father.
I can find no connection apart from this marriage. Is there any possibility that there may be more children that I have yet to come across as he certainly seemed to enjoy the company of women!

on freebmd the marriage is between Richard Reynolds and sarah Wilde.
there is a sarah dax. marrying a john wilde, so it is possible that sarah was a widow, maybe the sarah dax in the 1841 census, born 1821.

This is the record from familysearch of the marriage of Sarah Dax to John Wilde Alberbury Parish Church 7 Jun 1846
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/NNQM-5X3

If you look at the 1851 census there is a William and Mary Dax living with a John & Sarah Wilde so it does look possible that Sarah was a widow when she married Richard Reynolds. Possible death from freebmd for John Wilde, Atcham District q/e Dec 1854. However this William Dax is shown b circa 1784 Alberbury and Mary bc 1781 Churchstoke, so might this William and Mary be Sarah's grandparents? Again from familysearch your 4x great grandfather William bc 1809 - baptism to a William & Mary Dax Alberbury in 1808 .

Thanks Shirl!

Rather than Sarah being William Jnrs. daughter, is it more probable that they were brother and sister?

That's always a possibility as in those days it wasn't unusual to have children well into their 40's and beyond. Keep checking census records though as sometimes a relative will appear and it might state the relationship - not that you can always rely on what's written of course!
