Another one with two baptisms
« on: Tuesday 08 April 14 17:53 BST (UK) »
I have found several people with two baptisms in my research, but so far always one in non-conformist and one in C of E church. But now I have found someone who appears to have been baptised twice about a year apart in the same place.
Familysearch has:
Augusta Sophia Alexina Livermore bapt 14 May 1842 and Augusta Sophia Matilda Alexiowna Livermore bapt 24 Apr 1843  both in the Cathedral, Manchester, parents in both cases are Charles Livermore and Augusta Sophia.

FreeBMD has birth reg
Augusta Sophia Alexianna Livermore  1842 Q2 Manchester district vol 20 page 601

but no sign of a death for her shortly after  and the birth of another daughter with same name (except "Matilda" added) approx a year later. So is it one baptism and an error by Familysearch, or was she baptised twice?

I have posted about the child's parents on the thread below, to save anyone duplicating what has already been found on the wider family. Thanks

Hi

Have looked at the register and it looks like she was definitely bp. twice.

Maybe when she was a sickly babe and baptised quickly incase she didn't survive first time round.

I have a whole family of eight children bp. twice and I still don't know why  :(

Thanks. As I couldn't find a death for her and a birth for a second, I thought it must really be two baptisms. As there is hardly a year between the two, timing is a bit tight for it to be a second child. The second baptism does add another Christian name (Matilda), so maybe the parents thought they had to have her re-baptised to give her the extra name (as if three wasn't enough already!)
