Hughes line around the lower Tanat Valley
« on: Wednesday 16 July 14 15:21 BST (UK) »
Hi, I'm tracking my Hughes line around the lower Tanat Valley. The 1841 & 1851 census show John Hughes, Agricultural Labourer and wife Elizabeth Hughes (maiden name unknown) at Alltgoch (Cottage near Bwlchyddar) on Llangedwyn Estate both of whom are 50 in 1841, though 61 and 64 in 1851. Children (name, baptised, family abode at baptism):
Edward   ?
John      03 Oct 1813      Llansantffraid
Richard      12rd Jan 1817      Llanerchenrys Llansantffraid
Margaret                17rd Feb 1821      Briw, Llangedwyn
Catherine   15th May 1826      Briw, Llangedwyn
Thomas      10th June 1827      Priddbwll, Sycharth
David      04th Oct 1829      Priddbwll, Sycharth
I've not been able to find anything on the 'late Edward' whose 'children' (not named) were provided for in retired farmer Richard's will of 1887. Any help appreciated.
Hughes - Llangedwyn, Llanfechain, Llanrhaiadr, Llansilin
Roberts - Llandisilio, Montgomeryshire
Davis - Caterham, Surrey
Mitchell - Windygates, Fife
Hayes - Radcliffe
Edwards - Llanyblodwell

Just a thought, but...since trying to find my lot around the Welshpool area, I have found a lot of Montgomeryshire records are recorded using the patronymic system; so Edward may be recorded as Edward John, ie. Edward, son of John.

There is this birth/baptism on Familysearch:

Edward John
birth:    10 July 1810
baptism:    14 July 1810    Meifod, Montgomeryshire
Unfortunately, no parents names are given.

Meifod is only about 5 miles from Llansantffraid so this may be worth checking.
