'Brick Wall' thoughts

Hi all,  have found the familysearch.org website much improved and have been busy printing off the  Ireland Brith & Baptisms 1620-1881 and Civil Registrations Indexes 1845-1958. (Quickest way in Click on Search/Search Historical Records/Scroll down to Browse all published collections/then select United Kingdom and Ireland/Ireland

My thoughts are that if you have the registrations district e.g. Dromore West and the Volume/page does the volume number help to match families?  We all struggle with a list of the same surnames in the neighbouring districts but not knowing which family they belong to.  Would be interested to know posters thoughts on how reliable - if at all - those volume numbers would be in matching family groups.
