Seeking any information regarding James.

Enlisted in British Army in Cumberland 1772.
Enlistment gives Parish of Newry as birthplace.
Was a Bleacher by trade.

That’s a most interesting date.  Newry has some curious books and manuscripts see http://lh-lms.qub.ac.uk/search/?searchtype=X&SORT=D&searcharg=Newry+manuscripts
Which is based on the stock of the Linenhall Library, Belfast.  My memory is of a Francis Crossle having interesting unpublished work about Newry.

Two book by Nicholas Russell exist:- Where Donard Guards 276pp and Slieve Donard's Domain 304 pp. both published by Ballaghbeg Books, Newcastle Co Down.   The first book has an item noticed by http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~rosdavies/ where a Clement (James) Sturgeon Newry murdered by Irish rebels near Newcastle 3 May 1653. Ros Davies website has an entry for a Jane or Jean Sturgeon probated will of 1791 for nearby Narrow water and another Sturgeon a merchant on Newrys quays in 1881.

I assume you know about Bagenals castle museum and website that has an ancestry board.
Also try http://www.nifhs.org/  and PRONI’s catalogue that has a few 1700 entries
 Good luck onwards JimG
