Dunrobin Glen , Golspie

Dunrobin Glen.

My grandma Jane Mackenzie lived maybe with other sisters, with her
mother I believe also Jane in a cottage up Dunrobin Glen. She was employed as a lady's maid at Dunrobin Castle probably late 1800's early 1900's .
Also at the top of the Glen lived my great uncle Dougle Macdonald and his wife Chrisie (nee Mackenzie) my great aunt . Dougle was Gamekeeper for the Duke of Sutherland , and I first met them in 1955 when my mum and dad and I stayed in the Grace and Favour cottage provided by the Duke on his retirement in Brora.  The Mackenzies moved from Garve maybe end of 1800's .
Anyone any knowledge of this period

My grandmother Jane Mackenzie (nee) worked as ladies maid at Dunrobin Castle . The Bowes-Lyon family would be guests of the Duke of Sutherland in the early years of the 1900's
My grandmother as a ladies maid would attend Elizabeth later to become the Queen Mother combing her hair etc.
Little did she realise at the time Elizabeth would marry Prince Albert, the future King of Great Britain

Hi Gary

Sounds a fascinating history  :) Have you traced the family through the censuses and BMD registrations?

Hello MonicaL ,

I have looked at census and BMD briefly but was unable to trace the information. A response from you will now revive my enthusiasm.

I have a photograph of the cottage up Dunrobin Glen with my grandma and great grandma , but my aunt Robina Mackenzie( nee) now 84 years,  whose father Duncan Mackenzie lived to his death in Golspie, is unable to pinpoint the date.
I also have a photo of the same cottage taken my me 2006 on a visit to the area.
I will upload them to the site

Regards to you Monica for your interest
