John Arthur Bownass (Known as Arthur)
« on: Thursday 02 October 14 11:20 BST (UK) »
I have posted this on the Antrim board so hope it is OK to post it here too.

My father, William Cecil Bownass  b 1901 was the youngest of six children. They were all born in Arkholme, Lancashire and all lived there except for the next to the youngest John Arthur b 1896, who I know very little about.  I know he was in the Royal Engineers in WW1 and as Arkholme is  a Thankful village, I know he was one of the 59 men from that village who returned safely.
He  eventually moved to Northern Ireland (Belfast I think) to work on a newspaper, but I’m not sure when.. He married Alice ? but I don’t know if this was in Lancashire or Ireland. I can find no trace of this marriage in England.  I believe they had twins which did not survive, but again I can find no trace.
I do know my family were due to take me for a visit to them in September 1939, but because of the outbreak of WW2 we obviously did not go.
I think he died after 1968, in Northern Ireland, but again I cannot find details..
I would be grateful for any help you can give me,

I have since heard from Aghadowey on the Antrim board with news of the twins, so I now have information about their birth and deaths.

Hi  Trishanne    I have a Family tree in front of me     that  was sent from Antrim  in 1991   by John Bownass .   His Father was Thomas   so   John Arthur    would be John's Uncle  .  I might be able  to find you an address  for John .
Out of the  seven    only   Thomas  and  William's  family   have been completed.
I can  copy  and  pm you  the sheets  if  you like  .

Hello Green Dragon, Thomas was the eldest in the family and William, my father, was the youngest. John is my cousin.
Richard (Dick), Maude and James never married and Mabel married and had no children.
I would love to receive any information you have, thank you. I would also love to know your connection, if any, to the family.
