Pearson family of Oswaldtwisle/Accrington
« on: Sunday 05 October 14 21:22 BST (UK) »
I have found the following in the baptism records of Accrington:
On 6th August 1815, Thomas and Anne Pearson, he being a spinner by occupation, had two children baptised:
Susannah who was born on 2nd August 1813 and William, no date of birth given.
I think that Thomas's wife is probably Anne Parkinson, the marriage being in Accrington, on 21st November 1812.
I can't see any more children born to this couple and I can't find them or Susannah or William in the census.
Can anyone find any information about this family please?
I am rather hoping that Susannah is my g-g-g-grandmother who I have been trying to identify for years.
Many thanks
Bev

from genuki
" She died on 6 August 1837 in Oswaldtwistle, Lancs.1 The address was: Moor Meadow. ... Church Kirk, Lancs."

looks like Ann died in Childbirth:
Burial on 3 Nov 1816 St James, Church Kirk, Lancashire, England
Ann Pearson
aged 21 of Moor Meadow

She was aged 17 on her marriage to Thomas in 1812 - father William Parkinson.

a good find Rolnora - that now makes Susannah Pearson as Bevs  ggg grandmother definitely not the Susannah we have just been researching ....
bad news for Bev - but at least she can now eliminate Susannah born 2nd aug /bap 6th aug 1815 at St James Accrington ...
Mosiefish - how sad ....Anne died giving birth to Thomas - and he was baptised the same day as her burial .....Thomas snr went through a bad time didn`t he ...and it looks like he lost his son Thomas too in July 1817....poorman - I wonder if he married again because William would only be 2 at the most when Ann died ....

I hope I'm wrong with this because it makes it even more sad but just to round things off......
I've found the baptisms of Susannah and William on the Accrington Parish records and it gives William's birth date as 6 August 1815 at St James Oswaldtwistle then this burial Lancsopc....

Burial 17 Jan 1816 St James, Church Kirk, Lancashire, England
William Pearson -
    Age: Infant
    Abode: Oswaldtwistle

Looks likely to me - was there a fever / disease in that area 1815-20 because there are a lot of infant burials at St James Church Kirk in those 5 years....very sad to see so many babies / infants deaths .
ADDED..........just googled
looks like an epidemic of Scarlet Fever in Lancashire at that period...
