Kirkham parish record lookup-Marriage John Lee & Cecily
« on: Sunday 12 October 14 10:38 BST (UK) »
Hi Guys
Have hit a brick wall
Looking for a marriage approx. 1753 for a John Lee born about 1728 to Cecily possibly in Plumpton or Kirkham - it is possible they were Catholics but no evidence of that although later descendants were
Has any one got access to parish records who could get me a photocopy of the records
I am in Australia no direct access
Cheers
Manu

There is nothing in the Kirkham registers, and Plumpton is not part of the Lancashire parishes shown on Ancestry.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

mmmmm!! That's interesting there is a record of a William Lee born 1753 in Plumpton to a John Lee and Cecily
Are there other parish records around the Plumpton area Westby with Plumpton or Wood Plumpton that they could have married in
I don't know the area that much

Thanks Rolnora
I did note that entry a while ago but the dates, second name and first name differences made me a bit suspicious, it is possible that William may have been born later but later generations appear to follow the right dates, areas etc so I feel that the entry you mentioned is possibly not the one I want
Will have to keep looking maybe John and Cecily married somewhere around the Kirkham area
Anyway I hope someone might through a bit more light on the subject
cheers anyway
Manu :) :)

Hi Manu,
I wasn't too bothered about the names. Having researched the surname Lee before I have found it under Lee/Lees and Leigh and Cicily/Cecily is close and could have changed over the years depending on how it sounded to whoever was writting it down at the time. Looking at the marriage record she has made her mark rather than signed.
I must admit that the date did bother me but after searching various websites it was the nearest I could get ???
I did try to find the baptism for William Lee born 1753 that you mentioned in a previous post but I can't pin it down.
Do you know anything else that may help us search.

Hi Clare T
That's looks a good entry and is likely to be a good connection
Hi Rolnora
I agree with you that names and spelling can change over the years but I do think the 1766 date is too far from 1753 - the most annoying thing is when I went to check the date for William I cannot now find it yet a few years ago it was there however it did say no source information available so its possible it has been deleted which is a shame (I have a problem not documenting sources some times so that will teach me to be more careful
I suppose it will mean a trip to the UK or some nice researcher will be able to assist
I like the Westby area and it sort of fits into the scheme of things
Hopefully someone has access to church records in the area - its a pity Catholic records are difficult to discover
cheers everyone
