Felix Whately & Rose McNulty or McNally
« on: Saturday 30 August 14 17:49 BST (UK) »
Looking for brothers and sisters of Felix Whately born about 1833 who married Rose McNulty/McNally about 1861. Would like to know if Rose was a McNulty, or McNally.
Would love to go back one more generation from Felix Whately.

The Ulster Historical Foundation (AncestryIreland website) have transcribed the 1861 marriage as Felix Wakely and Rose McNally. The search index result suggests that no fathers' names are recorded. The RootsIreland website search index gives the parish for this marriage as Newry and Mourne RC parish.

Someone covering similar territory is here: http://genforum.genealogy.com/whatley/messages/1167.html

In the above link, I don't know the basis of the comment "His father was Benjamin or Bryan wheatly and his mother Ellen Roundtree" and therefore I can't stand over it, all I know is that the RootsIreland website search index brings back an 1823 church baptism in County Louth (Dundalk RC parish) for a Biddy Wakely with parents Bryan Wakely and Ellen Roundtree.

Also a possibility on the same unsubstantiated basis via the RootsIreland website is a church baptism for a John Waitly in 1836 in County Armagh (Upper Killeavy RC parish) for mother's name given as Ellen Roundtree.

Thank you, most helpful. Whately is an odd surname and would be easy to miss-transcribe. Should I now ask questions about this family on the Co. Louth web page, as their children were born there from about 1865. I know Ellen Whatley was born about 1863 in Co.Down. Would like to find their births and marriages. Can trace the boys through the 1901 census records. Not sure if any of the girls married.

I don't know parents of Felix Whately but his daughter Rose married Timothy Murray who was my Great Grandfather.

I did a Search on https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/civil-search.jsp to see where that Marriage took place as you didn't say.

It was in Dundalk District

I then did a Search for  Whatley   Dundalk  (as per attachment) this gets their BDM Registrations there

http://www.rootschat.com/links/01o8u/  including the aforementioned Marriage!

The Irish Government BDM website

https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/civil-search.jsp

has 3 stages to it as per attachment

Those with Returns Page No don't have Images yet but one can check back every now and then to see if any have been updated even once every 6 months!

If one knows the names from a Marriage e.g.  "about 1870"  just put Name in, Tick Marriage box and use Year Range 1868 to 1872  leaving District  blank if unknown!

The Captcha and Sign in page are all part of process the Irish Government BDM website and do not take anyone to any other website!
