STOUGHTON/NICHOLLS - Blunham
« on: Thursday 02 August 07 16:46 BST (UK) »
Hi All,

I am looking for information on a Thomas Nicholls/Nichols who was the inn keeper of the Salutation pub in Blunham in the late 1700's.
I was wondering if this is the same Thomas Nicholls/Nichols who married a Mary Stoaton (whose surname was mispelt on the marriage certificate as it should have been Stoughton).
Mary was a daughter of William Stoughton who I believe was the Miller at Blunham Mill from about 1768 until some time in the 1780's.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It may be worth while seeing if William S left a Will - and if it survived...a quick email to Bedford Archivists will tell you if he did

Hi Cathy,
Many thanks for the information.
I have had a look at the Bedfordshire Archives this morning and it has thrown some interesting things up which I am going to have to read through later.

I have got as far as a Thomas Nichols from Blunham beds who married a Sarah king these having a Thomas born in 1746. This Thomas married a Mary Stoughton  it would be nice to have more information on these people I believe I have all the children of Thomas and Mary I have 9, but only information on two of these children. Any help would be nice and I would be grateful

Hello Sheila,
Elsie was my Nana Emily's sister, when I was little I always called Aunt Elsie, Nana Scarr. I think most of the distant relatives and there are a lot, including myself have only got as far back as Thomas Nichols and Sarah King. Yes their son Thomas did marry Mary Stoughton (mistranscribed as Stoaton when they married). I have 10 children for Thomas and Mary and information about three of them and their descendants. If your sister in law is who I think she is (she was married to Elsie's youngest son B) then it has been a lot of years since I last saw her.
We have also chatted on RC before on this link http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=236934.msg1339473#msg1339473
I notice that you have an interest in the surname Prime, Elsie and Emily's older sister Beatrice married a Charles Prime.

Sorry Nettie forgot to say I haven't any dates for Charles Prime so I can't see if he is one of mine I did find the marriage. Is it right that there was 10 years between two of the daughters

There is actually 16 years between Aunt Elsie and my Nana Emily who was born in 1921. Good to know that b is fine, haven't seen him in years either. I have lots of fond memories of Aunt Elsie and her house in Coldhams Lane. Say hello to your sister in law for me, she will probably remember when my mum, dad and myself lived at Aunt Elsie's (when I was a baby/toddler).
