anyone know when the hospital opened and any archives exist of patients treated there

Bedford Hospital opened in August 1803.  Samuel Whitbread was the benefactor who bequeathed £8,000 in his will when he died in 1796.

I thought so. It would fit in with a death registration IF it where possible to prove he was a patient.

Did he die in Bedwell Park Hertfordshire age 76.  His death is in a number of papers Saturday 18th June 1796 'the celebrated porter brewer'.  Also about a month later in the newspapers in his will it mentions brewery concerns also Bedford goal and the Bedford infirmary plus other bits. Just realised you weren't looking for Samuel Whitbread sorry
