Bernard Connolly
« on: Wednesday 22 January 14 16:25 GMT (UK) »
The Pedigree Resource File on Family Search shows a Bernard Connolly b 1 Jan 1815, d 19 Feb 1879 Carluke, m 30 April 1841 with a FATHER Francis Connolly b 1 Jan 1792, d 28 March 1858 Dunfermline Burgh Fife.
I can find no other ref. which positively links Bernard to this particular Francis in Dunfermline.
Any help appreciated.

Geoff, stating the obvious, given the death dates, have you checked death certs on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk ? Both Bernard and Francis show as having died post 1855 and the start of official registration in Scotland.

What is your interest? How have you traced back? A lot of the confirmation of events and facts is in the detail  :) For example, what was Bernard's mother's name?

Hi Monica,
Bernard was my GGGrandfather. His death cert. gives father as Francis Conly(deceased) A Gardener. No mother is named, informant was son Peter Conly. Francis' death cert. gives father Thomas Connelly(deceased) A Stone Mason. Mother Margaret Mahon(deceased) They were probably illiterate so the name spelling varies a lot.

Hi Geoff

What was Francis's age at death? Did the cert include his wife's name? Around this mid to late 1850s period, sometimes all that showed was marital status (single, married, widowed) with no further details...which is a pain!

Who and when did you Bernard marry?

This entry in 1841 (always the issue with age adjustments for 1841  :-\)

Francis Connelly 40 lab. b. Ireland
Jean Connelly 40
Helen Connelly 19
Mary Connelly 17
Margaret Connelly 14

Address: Rumbling Well, Dunfermline

And then there is this entry, also in 1841:

Thomas Burns 50
Janet Burns 50
Michail Burns 20
Catherine Burns 20
Sarah Burns 15
Heugh Burns 15
George Burns 14
Patricks Burns 9
Charles Burns 7
Bernard Connely 20 fireman b. Ireland

On first fly through...not getting the pedigree file info  :-\ Thomas Connoly's wife and children show as born in Fifeshire in 1841. Don't see how Bernard, if I have the correct entry above, could have been born in Ireland to a Fifeshire mum...

Catrine Connoly 34 b. Clorburn (spl? Closeburn), dumfrishire
Agnes Connoly 9 b. Lieth, Midlothian
Margrate Connoly 7 b. Carluke, lanarkshr
Francis Connoly 1 b. Carluke, lanarkshr
Francis Connoly 18 Ironstone Miner lodger b. Ireland....I would follow him to check his parents' names. Maybe a brother to Bernard?
John Culliven 20 Ironstone Miner lodger b. Ireland
Patrick Holland 20 Ironstone Miner lodger b. Ireland
James Mullin 36 Ironstone Miner lodger b. Ireland

Monica you have been busy. Francis' age at death was 66. All it says on his death cert. is he was married. He was a general labourer and the informant was Alexander Hamilton, a neighbour.
Bernard married Catherine Burns on 30 April 1841. Yes, this is the Family Search file. The 1841 entry for Francis Connelly 40 Ireland, wife Jean(Adamson) is the Dunfermline Francis. The 1841    entry for Thomas Burns family with Bernard Connelly are my family. The 1851 Bernard Connoly and family are my lot.
