Help reading ww1 discharge form

It looks like Deafness to me.

I agree on Deafness, it is written strangely as you say but I can't think of anything else.

I think the spelling is correct but the writing a little odd.

There looks to be two different styles in the one word.

Two different forms of the letter e - presumably because of the position in the word - and a slight oddness in the double s at the end of the word.

I am quite capable of having two completely different versions of a letter in any one word, depending on what it follows.
