Mary Jardine B:c1907 D:c 1970's from Ayrshire
« on: Thursday 19 June 14 18:58 BST (UK) »
Hi

Im struggling to find some info  on the listed person Mary Jardine!

She was born around 1907, in Ayrshire, to JOhn Jardine & Mary Eliza Waters.

Mary married a Hugh Campbell in 1936, Ayr, but previously had children to a male surname Wallace!
On her marraige cert to hugh campbell, it states she was a spinster,..so i assume she never married the Guy named Wallace......how can i find the children born to this relationship?...i have tried Ancestry, familysearch etc,...getting nowhere!

Any help gratefully received!
Thanks
Gina

You can only view records up till 1913 online for S P  for statutory births... for births after that date you will need to go to Edinburgh or Mitchell Library  :) Maybe the children were put up for adoption ?

You can search the indexes and send off for a copy of a certificate if you see something that looks likely. Try a search on Wallace with Jardine in the advanced search box. You might just hit on lucky.

Unlike the English/Welsh GRO indexes post mid 1911...you cannot search online in the way described here  :-\ From the late 1920s, if you were at one of the Scottish main genealogy centre (I note you are not local unfortunately) you could search for births with a combination of father/mother's surnames. However, this isn't likely to be possible here...

As a general rule, if the reputed father didn't attend the registration of a child's birth, the surname on the child's birth cert would be that of the mother's. The father's name box would be left blank.

Two people have now said that there is nothing to be gained by my suggestion of looking on scotlandspeople :)

So here goes for a third attempt to try to explain why it may be worth a look. Put in the surname Jardine, filter to Ayr, then put a date range e.g. 1900-1936 (date of the marriage). Go into the advanced search function and add Wallace to the free text box. You will find someone born in 1932 with the surname Jardine and middle name Wallace. It may be nothing to do with your family, but then again it might be worth a closer look and considering the expense of ordering a certificate rather than trying to visit a research centre.
