STAR near Llanvirn
« on: Monday 10 January 11 22:28 GMT (UK) »
 Hi

i wondered if anyone knew of the existence of a property called "Star" or anything similar in the parish of St Davids. the next property was the farm of Llanvirn.

My relatives the Devonalds "Divnald" on census lived there in 1851.

Many thanks

Hello  :)

I don't know anything about Star but in case you haven't found Llanvirn, it's on the Berea to Abereiddi road, OS grid reference 179690,230250.

There are some photos of cottages in this area:

Kind regards

There's a Morning Star at Rhodiad, St Davids, Haverfordwest, SA62 6PJ  :)

Genuki placenames has Morning Star Inn at OS coordinates 175680,227170

http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/PEM/places2.html

Were the family there in 1841? I read that a Schooner called "Morning Star" was wrecked off Milford in 1842.

I can't find Devonalds in 1851 for some reason but I found a Thomas John age 57 in 1881, a butcher and inn keeper.

Thankyou.

I think they are down as Divnald or Dionald I will check. John, Elizabeth, Caleb....

They appear to be the next house to Llanvirn.

I took a jpeg of a detailed 1907 map of the area of your interest at the record office today, it does not show Star, but it might reveal some ideas for you to search. Send me an off forum email address by PM if you want a copy.

I had hoped to consult the 1837-41 Tythe Map and apportionment which would have really pinpointed the place of your interest, however the parish copy that covers the area of your interest is held I believe at St David's there is no copy at the Record Office, there is a possible further copy at NLoW and/or TNA.

Just seen this thread - a couple of years late!
Would it be the Morning Star, which was a pub and is still [a private house] at Rhodiad?
I have been passed some family notes written years ago which say Hugh Lewis was born there in 1869 - and the 1871 census apparently shows the Lewis children there with their aunt Margaret Hughes in 1871. I wonder if there was a Devonald connection?
Or am I barking up the wrong tree, and this is not the 'Star' you mean?
