McMahon: any still in County Laois?
« on: Sunday 18 May 14 20:18 BST (UK) »
Looking for any McMahons still in County Laois? My grandfather William McMahon b. 1895 came to Scotland with three of his family in 1926; his brothers were John b. 1897, Thomas b. 1900, James b.1903 and Patrick b.1910, also 2 girls Mary Anne and Margaret. Their parents were Joseph McMahon b. 1849 and Mary Neill 1868- Joseph had a blacksmiths business.  Joseph had  a brother John b. 1841 and a brother James born 1845 (also blacksmiths) with family in Dublin William and Daniel twins b. 1883 and John b. 1888.

They lived at Coolanagh, Shrule Laois/Queens County. James lived at 70.4 Charlemont Street, Fitzwilliam Dublin.

Any info, much appreciated.

Yes, I think the McMahon one with Patrick Joseph; I think he is my grandfather's younger brother. Thanks so much for your help.

The McMahons lived at Shrule and Coolenaugh until recently.   Michael and Joe passed away in recent years, but I believe they still have family in Kilkenny.  They had lived at Sleaty before that. I knew Joe well

Thank you for this if this is the same direct line of McMahons, Michael and Joe would be my father's cousin. My grandfather had four brothers- John, Thomas, James and Patrick  would you know if any of them were any of them Joe or Michael's father?

Jim was their Fathers name.   He worked on the Co. Council.      Kate was their Mother, a lovely gentle lady, originally from Clough Castlecomer.  Margaret was the oldest and married a man called Billy Walsh from Kilkenny and  Mgt. unfortunately died of cancer some years ago. Mick died in Luton, England 10th June 2007, Joe died in 6th February 2012    so they are all gone R. I. P.    Hope this is of some help.
