Stanley George Smith Born 2/5/1893 Boyton, Suffolk
« on: Friday 19 September 14 22:15 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I hope someone to help   :D

I am trying to find out what happened to my great uncle Stanley George Smith who was my grandfather Herbert Sydney Smith's yonngest brother. The last fact I have about him is that he was a witness at his brother Laurence's wedding on 18/3/1916 in Woolwich, London. Brother's Alfred and Laurence worked at the Royal Artillery during WWI so he may have done as well. His parents were Eliza Amelia Curtis and Sydney Smith from Ipswich and Boyton, Suffolk. The 1911 Census shows the family living at 448 Foxhall Road, Ipswich.

Hello,

I obtained a death certificate a couple of year's ago for the Ipswich 1920 death which I think is the same one you've mentioned: Death registered December qtr 1920
Ipswich Reg district
. It says the following:

Dead body found 16th October in the docks waters, drowned.  His address was No. 9 Arthur Street, Ipswich and he was a sawyer. An inquest was held 16th October 1920.

(In the 1911 Census my great uncle was a milkman.)

Also we've checked the CWGC website for the grave. It says 'Son of George E. and Sarah Jane Smith, of 9, Arthur St. Ipswich' , DATE OF DEATH 16/10/1920. So it seems the death record and grave are the same person. Unfortunately this Stanley George Smith has the wrong parents.

Is it possible to find out about people who worked at the Royal Artillery in Woolwich, London as my ancestor's two brothers also worked there?
