Unfortunately the Records of the Episcopal Church in Scotland are not available online .... although quite a few are available in Edinburgh.

If you scroll down to the bottom of the page I posted a link to, it says "The old records for St John’s are now held in the Archives of North Lanarkshire Council."

http://www.northlanarkshire.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=6464

Might be worth sending them an e-mail to ask what exactly they have.

Anne  :)

Further proof that we have the right Clergyman.

I wonder now if anyone can find the marriage of Williams brother. He was Joseph SINNERTON born abt 1827 Ireland. He married Agnes CAIRNS born 27 Apr 1831 Barnoy, Glasgow. They married on the 18 March 1853 Shettleston. I cannot find this on the Scotlandspeople indexes.

Thanks
bswinno.

Looks like Joseph, married Agnes Cairns, 27/Feb/1853. Barony, Lanark. the only point his name was spelt Sunerton, on the marriage, on Scotlandspeople.

Some early births to their children are coming up with other variations ie Sotherton, etc.

On the 1881 census the family are down as Simmerton, plus Agnes Cairns, has passed away by this census.

Regards
Jonn.

Great John,

I had looked under various different spellings as well, but did not find that.
I will look at that.

Thanks

Hello Brian, there are ten births for Joseph, and Agnes Cairns, on family search. One in particular is a Jean Sotherton, born 5/May/1855. Old Monkland, this year is special that if you purchase this one from Scotlanspeople, this year 1855. gives more information, it may actually say what part of Ireland, Joseph, came from.

Regards
Jonn.

Ps. Joseph, and wife Agnes, lived for a couple of years in Stevenston, Ayr, where two of their kids were born.

John,

Yes they are to some extent well documented.
I recently got birth dates from A++cestry burials.
Interesting what you say about where they might have come form in Ireland.

Just about to buy some more credits.
Brian.
