Hi Davieboy,

Thanks for having a look at my query anyway - I can see from many of the Censuses that there were a lot of Allans in Avondale, so will just have to hope that if I put messages on enough forums, that there will be someone out there with more info on my branch.


So far I've only looked in Scotlandspeople, Ancestry.co.uk and IGI. Are there any other good sources you or anyone else can suggest?

Read your request and although I can't go back that many years I did know a Mrs Nan Paterson nee Vernal from the village.  She. and her husband are buried in the village cemetry and if it is the same family line I could give you some info.

I am also looking for Patersons in Chapelton/ Glassford area, in particular William Paterson born about 1810 who died sometime between 1841 and 1847. His widow Agnes Struthers married Daniel McLean in 1847 and she died between 1851 and 1855.

Any information on the above or their children Thomas b 1838, John b 1841, and Elizabeth b 1844 will be very much appreciated.

Looking for burial records for Andrew Shearer and his wife Margaret Watson They were born about the 1780's. Also their children Gavin (and his wife Catherine Park) who died in 1866 in Strathaven, and Isobel who may have died about 1831 in the Chapelton area. Shearer seems to be a very popular name in this area!
