« on: Monday 24 November 14 15:39 GMT (UK) »
The 1895 Valuation Roll for Carluke shows some of my ancestors as the Proprietors of a Preserve Works at Law Junction. The Proprietors are listed as Burns & Co. with the Partners named as Straton B. Burns MD, William Combe Burns & Peter B. Conly.
Does anyone have information/history on this works or can they point me in right direction please?

Likely your family members took over from J Thomson & Co., who were dissolved in 1893 (2nd col)? www.thegazette.co.uk/Edinburgh/issue/10530/page/1386/data.pdf

However, they must have taken back the business given the link posted by Harrydog from 1929. Also, from 1919 www.carlukehistory.co.uk/stories/expand.php?pic=../gallery/stewarts/k14.jpg - towards the bottom of the page.

Many thanks to harrydog and MonicaL for these useful contributions which I will follow up.
The 1891 census for Law, Carluke shows Peter B Conly as a Preserve Manufacturer and employer of others.
In the 1895 Valuation Roll for Carluke, apart from being one of the partners, he appears as Manager of the Preserve Works
In 1901 census he has moved on with his family to Lambeth, London as Manager of Jam Factory.

Having just revisited this thread I think I may have solved the mystery.
The Directory of Scotland 1896 - Jam, Marmalade & Preserve Manufacturers, among others:
Burns & Co. Clydeside Preserve Works, Law Junction, Carluke
Scott R & W Clydesdale Preserve Works, Carluke
Thomson J & Co. Mauldslie Preserve Works, Law Junction, Carluke
The Glasgow Herald 13 June 1896 reports the formation of a company called
Laurence Henderson, Sons & Co. Ltd.
In their Prospectus, among other things, it states that the Firm have likewise acquired the  Clydeside Preserve Works at Law, Carluke where the manufacture of all kinds of high-class preserves has long been successfully carried on and that the services of a Manager of wide experience have been secured for the Clydeside Works.
The P O Directory 1897-1898 lists:
Henderson, Laurence & Sons & Co. Ltd Clydeside Preserve Works, Carluke
The London Gazette 23 Feb 1900 reports the Liquidation of the Company.
The Glasgow Herald 13 July 1900 contains the following notice:

Carluke(Law Junction) For Sale, The Clydeside Preserve Works, Ground about 1.1/4 acres, Feu Duty £20
What eventually happened to the Managing Director of this Company, Laurence Henderson, I wonder?
