Marriage in Cardiff
« on: Saturday 19 July 14 02:51 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Im wondering how to find a marriage cert, iv been able to locate through Ancestry.com the marriage index but I don't know how to or if possible find the original or transcribed marriage certificate.

Groom: George Thomas Burgess born 1869 Cardiff - parents unknown
Bride:    Margaret Elliott - parents James and Margaret

married on the 30.06.1895 in Parish Of Roath Cardiff.

index page 479 - 11a

Can someone also be as kind to tell where Cardiff is (stupid question) when im using other programmes for searches it often asks for the country I assumed wales was the country but that's not an option for wales? is it Glamorganshire? I feel so silly but I cant seem to find a suitable option.

thanks millions :)

Hi

The reference you quote index page 479 - 11a refers to the General Register Office (GRO) Index and are used to order a copy an England or Wales marriage certificate for 9.25 GBP.
http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/ The full details are June Qtr 1895, Cardiff Registration District, Vol 11a Page 479

Do not purchase through one of the commercial sites as they are far dearer and get the certificates from the GRO.

Images of some Parish Registers are online on various websites, the Parish Registers have the same information as a certificate.

Andy

The City of Cardiff is in the county of Glamorganshire, in the country of Wales. ;D
Cardiff is the capital city of Wales.

Moderator comment: post moved to Glamorganshire board

Hi Pinkfairy7,

Are you still interested in obtaining Geo Thos Burgess's marriage certificate?

His father's name is George Burgess, a foreman
and Margaret's father is James Elliott a policeman.

If you are hoping to get a cert. I can help. Please go to my personal message for details.
