John Henry Torley

Hello All,

I have lost the whereabouts of John Henry Torley after the death of his wife during childbirth, there is no trace of him, I would appreciate any help please.

John married Sarah Frances McMahon, 24 Nov. 1874, St Joseph's Church, Hobart, Tasmania, Sarah died Oct 8. 1875 in Hobart, the baby dying the day of his birth Oct 1. 1875, where did John go did he leave the state did he remarried? hope there is help out there.

There is a John Torley marrying a Mary Eliza Lear Cole in Victoria in 1895 #12596x1941, There doesn't appear to be any Torleys in the Pioneer index but there are 5 in the Federation index, may not be your man.

There is a John Torley death in Victoria in 1959 age 95, father John James Torley and Mother Mary McDevitt #20294 possibly the same fellow as the one I posted earlier.
 

There are a few other Torleys in the death index, but none appear in any of the other Digger CDs apart from the Federation one.

I assume the registration means the marriage was not registered until 1941.  Wonder if the certificate was required for a legal reason.

Just checking his occupation when he married - Steward of Tasmanian Club - so it would be a reasonable match with the man that Cando found in 1901.
