3 Generations of Littles born in Ireland , but where?
« on: Saturday 03 May 14 11:00 BST (UK) »
I have been searching the Little side of my family and have just found a death cert for a John Little who died in 1875 in  the Gorbals ,Glasgow. So basically i have Edward  Little born 1846-1908 , born Ireland and died Glasgow, his father John Little born 1799-1875 born Ireland and died Glasgow and finally on Johns death cert his parents are John Little and mother Mary Wade so guessing they were early 20,s when married that would put them 1775-77 ish . John 1799-1875 his wife was Jane Smith 1806 -1886 and born Ireland with parents Matthew Smith and mother Mary Kelly . Having 3 generations born in Ireland im hoping it would be easy to trace the family and more importantly where they came from . The first 4 generations were all masons , stonecutters .
The Littles in the 1861 census are living at 53 Cumberland Lane  in the Gorbals , which housed a large population of Irish immigrants . In Benny Lynchs book , the former world boxing champ lived in the Lane at 53 and it was described as a ghetto within a ghetto and ran in a Clan system, basically if you didnt live there you didnt enter the Lane . My gran Little offered Benny a bed for the night now and again after he became an alchoholic and was on the streets , well thats a story my mother passed on and now i know they lived in the same streets so could be true ;-)
Any help to find where the Littles come would be greatly appreciated. Raymie

Hi There

The main name need to start the search would be the name of Edward's mother - do you have that ?
