John Harrison
« on: Saturday 22 February 14 06:00 GMT (UK) »
Looking for Birth date and marriage date for John Harrison (want wife's name).  He was born abt 1795 to 1805 Grasmere, Kendal, Westmorland.  His daughter Elizabeth Harrison born abt 1819 to 1823 married Thomas Lee born 1820 Burneside in1841 in Kendal.  They left for Australia in 1855.  One of their children was named Agnes.  Did John marry Agnes Dodd?
Thomas's parents were James and Ann Lee (nee Cragg) from Cragg's farm. Their daughter Annie called her house in Bendigo, Victoria, Australia "Grasmere".
I am interested in Stott Farm John Harrison.  I don't think it is the Beetham Farm.  There were many mayors named John Harrison.  Any info on any family Harrison, Lee or Cragg gratefully accepted as I need a few clues to go further.  I live in Western Australia.

Heather many thanks.  How did I get on Cheshire Board?  New to this!
Not sure if right one.  Need Elizabeth's marriage certificate.  Can't get through on family search.
Batch M39649-4 Film 1471687.  I went the wrong way, into Cheshire instead of Lancastershire where John Harrison was born.  It is warm and sunny 38 degrees in Perth Western Australia today. Good work.

How do I get into Marriage Certificate for Thomas born 1820 and Elizabeth Lee (nee Harrison) married 1841 Kendal?  Family search won't let me in Batch M39649-4 Film 1471687.  He is the son of James and Ann Lee (nee Cragg) of Burneside.
Elizabeth daughter of John Harrison Grasmere.  I think he was born 1796 son of Thomas and Sarah Harrison, but can't be sure if he married Agnes Dodd or Agnes Carradus both marriages 1815 or someone else. I need  date of birth of Elizabeth from a certificate as there are so many.
Thomas and Elizabeth left for Victoria Australia in 1855.  Annie their daughter lived in Bendigo and called her house "Grasmere".  She married Abraham Roberts.  Any info on Harrison, Lee or Cragg families would be appreciated.  38 degrees today from Perth Western Australia.  Cheers!

deleted - got confused by the topic of John Harrison, and the request for Thomas?
Are you looking for John Harrison, or Thomas Harrison?
Don't understand "Family search won't let me in Batch M39649-4 Film 1471687"?

The only marriage for Thomas Harrison on the batch number is 1837 to Margaret Lickabarrow?

Marriage certificates have to be bought (there is no way to see them first!) via GRO at a cost of £9.25.

Or are you looking for the marriage of Thomas Lee to Elizabeth Harrison?!

The PR entry on FamilySearch shows no more information than you already have?
Ancestry shows the marriage taking place on 23rd January 1841 at Kendal.

Sorry to confuse you re John Harrison.  I am really trying to find out more about him and his family. His occupation etc.
I need his daughter Elizabeth' DOB to ascertain who he married.  I may have to get her Death Certificate in Australia.  She died in 1911 in Bendigo, Australia.
Am delighted about Census for Thomas Lee.  Many thanks.

This is the family from 1841:

Class: HO107; Piece: 1163; Book: 3; Folio: 13; Page: 19
Far Cross Bank, Kendal

Harrison, John  M  55  I. Turner  (Independent?)
Harrison, Ann  M  50
Harrison, James  M  20  Labourer
Harrison, Margaret  F  11
Lee, Thomas  M  20  I.Dyer
Lee, Elizabeth  F  20                          All born in county

Remembering that, on the 1841 census, adult ages were generally rounded down to a multiple of 5 years.

. Hi there,  Census of 1841 good but confusing. Can only find one child Margaret born 1829 for John Harrison and Ann. Ann Nelson married a JH in 1828.  I think it was his 2nd marriage.
I found Elizabeth born 31/1/1819 and James  born 3/6/1821 to an Agnes (maybe Dodd). She married a John Harrison in 1815.  There was a death of a Agnes on 17/6/1821. There may have been other children before this.
Is 1841 the first census?  This is largely guesswork.
John was born 1786.  So many John Harrisons it may be the end of the line for me.  Was he a Mayor?  Did he live at Stott Farm?  Did any of the Harrisons go to America and become part of the famous family? With a Lee the other side perhaps I should do more searching.
Is there any history of the Harrisons in Grasmere and Kendal.  They must be related one way or another as there are so many of them.
If you dig up any more let me know, otherwise thanks alot.
