Osprey thats amazing thank you so much

I think i need a training course on family search as i always end up empty handed when I use it  ;D

The other info is great but it comes down to the genealogists dilemma of how much information is enough to confirm a correct match?

I'm going to have a trawl through the coastguard information on line to try and find some more clues to this side of the family.

Also need to learn some Cornish geography as these place names are all greek to me ;-)

Any more info or thougts, as always, would be very welcome

Cheers

Nick

this link may help with Cornish geog, but it appears to be offline at the mo

http://www.cornwall-opc.org/MAPS/parish_map.pdf

more info here as well

http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/Cornwall/

There's someone on this site who could help you with coastguard records. His user name is crimea1854 and  he is linked to this website
http://www.coastguardsofyesteryear.org/news.php

He posted in this thread among others
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,520609.0.html

Given that your Thomas Hawke Thomas was baptised in Padstow and so was John Crothers Thomas, I would be surprised if the couple I found are not the parents of both.

Many of the Cornwall parish registers images can be accessed here
https://www.familysearch.org/search/image/index#uri=https%3A//familysearch.org/records/collection/1769414/waypoints
but Padstow for the period you need isn't one of them.

Hi Osprey

I am already in contact with Martin from coastguardsofyesteryear who has been amazingly helpful (like most people on here ;D)

need to spend a few days digesting all the new info

But i agree it would seem very likely that the details you gave were a match

thanks again

Nick

Hi
My name is Don Blackburn and I have been tracing my family tree and have noticed that you Thomas Hawke Thomas may be the same person in this thread. However, I have his parents as James Thomas, coastguard born 1788 in Marazion and Ann (Perry) also born in 1788 in Helston. There were 4 siblings, Elizabeth, James, John Crowther, Robert.

Hi Apologies for the lack of responses, I was returning to the UK after being away for three years so got a bit distracted, then life catches up with you and its 2 years later  :o

This is my wife's side so I don't have quite as much interest but still starting to search again

I will try and get in touch with Don, cheers osprey.
