Anyone know where this was taken?
« on: Monday 17 November 14 17:28 GMT (UK) »
This is my grandmother and grandfather in 1939 on a day trip I assume, as they never travelled very far. They lived in Slough, so somewhere on the south or east coast maybe. Many thanks.

Sunny Snaps was one of the many firms that specialised in "walkies" -  impromptu pics of people walking in street scenes. Since they operated only in London and the Sussex seaside towns I feel you can eliminate the East coast. I note it says 1939 but that would have very late for this firm which may have ceased to operate a year before that so my store of info must be wrong.
Southern or Southan [Hereford , Monmouthshire & Glos], Jenkins, Meredith and Morgan [Monmouthshire and Glos.], Murrill, Damary, Damry, Ray, Lawrence [all Middx. & London], Nethway from Kenn or Yatton. Also Riley and Lyons in South Africa and Riley from St. Helena.

There is Sunny Snaps photo here dated 1938 which claims to be Hunstanton.  It shows a very similar fence to your photo.  It's about 6 photos down.

I can't see any evidence of the existence of an estuary or harbour at Hunstanton.  :-\

I doubt Hunstanton would be a 'day trip' from Slough in 1930's.  It apparently takes nearly 3 hours now though that is via the traffic jams on the M25  ;D

Before I read Rosie's post I thought Littlehampton as well. Along by the river.

Apparently "Sunny Snaps" are a bit of a mystery. Were they a franchise or local photographers bought their supplies from them?
