He was sentenced to 15 years transportation in 1852. The National Archives index has this reference:

"These documents are held at Cambridgeshire County Record Office, Huntingdon

Contents:
Deposition: Summer Sessions: John Sewell, Pedley, accused by:- John Reid, Hemingford Grey, farmer of stealing a dark bay horse (handbills issued - horse found, after activity by Cambs. and Herts. police, at Wellbourne, Cambs.) - Pedley, apprehended, voluntarily confessed to having stolen, about the same time, a ba gelding from Edward Butt, Hartford"

I wonder where he was sent.  Bermuda is a possibility at that time.

I am researching the same person and have also stopped at his 2nd conviction at Huntingdon assizes in 1852. I can't find out if or where he was transported; it seems NSW was no longer taking convicts, Tasmania finished in 1853 and Queensland in 1868. A tv programme on Lincoln gaol suggested that around 1850s transported sentences were commuted to imprisonment, but I haven't found any records of John pedley yet.
His wife and family were recorded in the workhouse in hemingford grey in 1851 when our man was in great stukeley gaol after his 1st offence. Unfortunately his wife Esther died in 1860 and I can find no other census for the family or john Sewell pedley.
A John Sewell pedley died in st Ives, hunts in 1914 aged 86 that doesn't quite compute with 1818 birth.
Incidentally john s pedley sister Maria and brother Henry both went to Australia (gold rush?) in late 1840s.
Hope this may help. I would be interested if this fits in with your research

There is one marriage of a William Pedley in WA and a follow on birth of a son William. It may be worth checking the indexes to see if John Pedley was sent there. He of course would have been freed not too long after as most of those transported in the 1850's were. He would have been free to move around after this to any state or even with some money return home. He may have remarried in another state after release.

On the 1861 census it shows both a possible sibling to John a married William born 1813 as well as a son of his with name of John S Pedley. Also a person John Pedley who could have been the father of Both b1890's.
