Laurence Fewer and Mary Furlong
« on: Monday 06 June 11 16:31 BST (UK) »
I have been searching for a long time for information on Laurence Fewer. I know he got married to Mary Furlong in 1846 in Wexford town. He was a Tailor. As far as I know they were the only family named Fewer living in the town. He lived in Killkenny before he came to Wexford. I have looked up the records in Killkenny but can't find his birth. My grandmother said he came from France and in her obituary that she prepared before her death his name was Le Feur. He was her grandfather. I havn't come across Le Feur in records. His children were registered as Fewer. Maybe the generation before him came from France. My great grandmother Annie Fewer was born in 1859 and married a widower James Carthy. If anyone out there has any information on Laurence or Mary I would be very grateful. I have come to a standstill on my research with them.  A

Did you get a marriage record for Laurence & Mary ?

Was his father mentioned on it ?

Was there an occupation for his father ?

Was it ever mentioned what part of Kilkenny Laurence came from ?

Do you have a death record for Laurence to give us a rough year for his birth ?

There are quite a few FEWER records for Kilkenny, not many for Wexford and NONE that I can see for the surname Le Feur.

IF SO, is this a presumption OR a fact ?

Laurence died on 2nd January 1886, aged 64. I have on the Griffiths Valuation that he lived in Killaspy. I have the marriage cert from the church. He was married in 1846 but the civil records didn't start until 1866 so there are no names of parents.  Angie
