PRESS of Greencastle, 1870
« on: Thursday 12 December 13 21:47 GMT (UK) »
Greetings, i am searching for any information on the Press family of Greencastle.  I know that Wm and Adelaide Press came to the Greencastle area ~1870 from Canada. William Press was buried there in July of 1892 and Adelaide was buried there in Jan qtr 1907.  At least three daughters, Amelia, Maria, and Martha were born there between 1871 and 1875.

Thank you for your time and efforts.
ian

"The Will of William Press late of Adelaide-terrace Greencastle County Donegal Master Gunner who died 15 July 1892 at same place was proved at Londonderry by Adelaide Press Widow and Henry John Press Bank Official both of Adelaide-terrace two of the Executors." Will mentions wife Adelaide, son Henry John Press, etc. (writing is difficult to read)

"Probate of the Will of Henry John Press late of Bank House Moville County Donegal Bank Manager who died 11 September 1917 granted at Londonderry to Annie B. Press the Widow."

Martha J. W. Press (born Donegal) with brother Henry in 1901 (see post above)- also an Anny P. McCurry*.
* note: transcribed as Anny P. McCurry but image shows Amy P. McCurry.

Birth: Martha Jane Press 1875 Inishowen registration district volume 12 page 152
Birth: Amelia Phillis Press 1871 Inishowen registration district volume 2 page 176
Birth: Maria Press 1872 Inishowen registration district volume 7 page 179

Marriage: Amelia Phillis Press, Apr./June 1894 Inishowen registration district volume 2 page 99
Joseph M'Curry on same page which ties in with 1901 census.

As you can see, Greencastle is in Co. Donegal- is there a reason you've started this thread on Antrim board?

Possibly related?
Marriage: Adelaide Elizabeth Press, Jan./Mar.1898 Inishowen reg. dist. volume 2 page 145
same page: Henry Thomas Woods

1901- Adelaide & daughter Maria:
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Donegal/Greencastle/Elevenballyboes/1185488

Amelia's husband? "McCurry Joseph of Greencastle county Donegal coal merchant died 16 September 1932 Probate Belfast 5 September to Herbert McMullan accountant. Effects £3156 15s. 8d"

There are several online family trees with lots more details of the family so you'll need to let us know exactly what sort of information you are looking for now.

Yes, there's a Greencastle in Co. Antrim (on the outskirts of Belfast) and also a townland with the name in County Down. If you click on 'report to moderator' you can get this thread moved to Donegal board.

There are at least 2 online Press trees- if you have access to Ancestry then take a look there or see them on the related site www.mundia.com.

Topics now merged on the Donegal board , and edited.

William Press is mentioned in wills: -

Also there is an Adelaid Press in 1901 census with a daughter Maria  :)
