Upper Moville Presbyterian church (Clar)
« on: Wednesday 23 April 14 18:19 BST (UK) »
Hi, I was wondering if anyone has a photo of the above church, it closed in 1962 and was probably demolished sometime after that, only the graveyard remains and there doesn't appear to be any photos online.

Hi Joe,
I just came across your post whilst searching for more about this church on google.  I do have photographs of both the old church and the surrounding graveyard.  Here is one of the church.

Thanks welovedonegal,

Unfortunately, that's not the church just a shed used to store equipment for maintenance of the graveyard I think. The old church was demolished I think in the early 1960's or earlier.

Thanks for having a look anyway

Regards

I did wonder Joe.
But sometimes there were Chapels of Ease which were never as fancy as actual main churches.  I thought maybe it was just built at a time when there was no money to spare.

Anyway, I looked in my photo file for it and I actually took a pic of the interior (the door was broken).  And the plaque in the grounds shows what I assume is a depiction of the old church.

Thanks for the additional info, actually The map from the 1920s looks like the current shed is located where the church would have stood, perhaps it was built from the remnants of the old church or is part of it, I hadn't noticed the chimney before.

As the church was only demolished in the early 1960s im sure there will still be those alive who remember it.

By the way my McCorkell ancestors lived in the adjacent townland, Ballyrattan.

Thanks again

I must see if I can find out more Joe.  I will report back if I do.

There are McCorkles in the Carrigart area of Donegal too.
