Alcorn family of Dunfanaghy circa 1850
« on: Saturday 19 July 14 23:49 BST (UK) »
I am trying to locate records concerning Mary Alcorn married to James Hayes and children George, Annie, Mary, John and William. The children were born between 1872 and 1879. Any help would be appreciated.

Records on FamilySearch which appear to be the family show the fathers name as Hay
William
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FG4P-XM3
Annie
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FGL9-PFR

Would this be the same family?
Their marriage
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FYSR-HWL
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FYSL-529

If this is the correct couple the marriage cert would give parents names.

Thank you. Our family is descended from William and I knew separately that his parents were James and Mary Alcorn. I was not able to find the pages you gave me. You are correct, the next step is to find the marriage cert. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Kevin

A few additional snippets of information available from the RootsIreland website search index.

The church marriage took place in Clondahorky East Church of Ireland parish. The fathers' names were George Alcorn and Thomas Hay.

A search of the index using parents names James Hay and Mary Alcorn also brings back civil births for Mary Anne 1881, Elizabeth 1883, and Margaret 1886, all registered in Dunfanaghy civil parish.

The record content for all of the above is pay to view.

Edited to add:  the transcribed marriage record is also available free here:

I found the marriage record you mentioned in the church records. I also see Mary Anne, Margaret and Elizabeth in RootsIreland.ie. This site is expensive to use so I'll try to find another source to confirm this info.

Thanks for your help.
Kevin

The last three children don't appear in FamilySearch

You'll should be able to find their marriage and children's births on http://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/ when they fix the Civil Registration search.

As an aside, Griffiths Valuation has several records for the name George Alcorn in the townlands of Cloghernagh, Pollaguill, and Claggan in the civil parish of Clondahorky.

Also a Thomas Hay in the townland of Muntermellan in the same civil parish.

Also a previous thread here that might be worth looking at, mention of Alcorns of Horn Head, they might be related to Mary Anne in some way:
