Albert Thomas HAMMOND...."went to America"

Yes, another Hammond from another family branch who "went to America".

However I have so far found no trace of Albert Thomas HAMMOND in the USA.

He was born in England, year of birth 1858. Father James, mother Sarah (nee Rigby.) Apparently married Lizzie Wallis. Nothing more is known.

Would very much appreciate some help with this one too.

Possible marriage to Eliza Wallis in Newcastle-under-Lyme in q/e Sep 1884 (6b 81).

In Birkdale Lancs in the 1901 census with a son George S born Manchester circa 1885. Also a visitor Helen G Streat from Nantwich.

If I have the right man he was a commercial traveller who made several visit to the West Indies (in first class) 1914-1920. Seems to have resided in Barbados for a while. Death in Wilmslow in 1926. Probate to son George Stewart* Hammond and widow Eliza.

* Should be George Stuart I think. Married Lottie Alice Wallis in Manchester in 1911

Mmmm, not sure about this. When the Hammond family history was compiled by older relatives in the 1980's, they seemed quite certain that this man had "gone to America" (as had his three Hammond cousins. This has been confirmed.) I will keep your information to hand all the same and see if something else pops up.

Marriage confirmed by Staffordshire BMD - Albert T Hammond and Eliza Wallis at Betley, St Margaret in 1884.

Re the 1901 census, I am assuming that your Albert Thomas Hammond was the one born in Wednesbury - is that right?

As Shaun said this Albert made a lot of trips back and forth accompanied by his wife Lizzie (commercial traveller ) all records on Ancestry

A birth on FreeBMD for an Albert Thomas Hammond in the September quarter for 1858 @ West Bromich would appear to be that of "my" man.

I do not have access to Ancestry.

Are there any family members showing in the census?
