Yes I agree with 1861 Wozzle - just come back from Freecen - haha

Cant find his Mum and dad and they dont seem to have had any more children. Wonder if they died and in 1851 Thomas was with a Barnicoat family somewhere ?

Fizzy

PS the confusion with him saying he was born Poughill seems to be with his father William and siblings having beeen born there.

27 year old William Cruse died in Kilkhampton in 1842 so perhaps Mum remarried ?

No not barnicoat sorry

If his parents were William and Susan then she was a HOPGOOD.

In 1849 Susan Cruse married either Daniel barrable or William Bonetta.

found him i think in 1851. transcribed as cruise
HO107/1897/104/19
william berratta age 56. b. morwenstow. occ. farm labourer head
susan berratta age 38. b. kilkhampton. wife
thomas cruise. age 10. b. kilkhampton. wifes son
elizabeth cruise age 8. b. ditto. wifes daughter
norah berratta age 1. b. poughill. daughter.
living at;broomhill, poughill,cornwall
so thomas's father must have died between 1843 when elizabeth was born and 1850 when norah was born
cattell,alcester

Thomas father could have died as soon as his mother was pregnant with her second child so I think he was the one who died in 1842 and then Elizabeth was born a bit later 1842/1843

And.....if thomas was trying to describe that job to the registrar it is prob why it was recorded as harbour master.
