Betsy Ann CREEPER
« on: Monday 06 October 14 17:08 BST (UK) »
Betsy Ann was baptised on April 18, 1813 at  St. Mary Magdalene, Launceston.  My question is: did she mary Joshua VEAL in 1839?

Have bee unable to locate her in subsequent censuses - did the newlyweds emigrate?

Any help gratefully received,

Marriage Apr/Jun/Jul 1839
Launceston

Has these people on the page:

Betsy Ann Creeper
Elizabeth Edwards
John Finnamore
Mary Hicks
Samuel Hodgkinson
Mary Squire
Joshua Veal
Digory Warne

So lets have a look at subsequent censuses and see who was likely to have married whom!

Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

Not that easy though . . . all are elusive!

The only Joshua Veal I am seeing in 1841/51 has a wife called Mary (though they are in Devon)

Lots of John Fin*mores in Cornwall.

Not seeing a Digory Warne with a wife with any of these names! Keep fineding one with wife Maria.

Not seeing any any Samuel Hodgkinsons n Cornwall in 1841 at all.

So it isnt just whoever married Betsy who has "disappeared", they are all proving difficult to trace.

Hi Lizdb,

Many thanks, that is where I got Joshua VEAL's name from as I was able to follow the other fellows through the 1851 census, bu not Joshua.

A tree on Ancestry has her marrying Digory Warne 11 April 1839 & dying in 1866. Digory died 1844.

Digory Warne, a carpenter of Launceston, was reported in the press as aged 27 at the time of his fatal accident in July 1844.  The accident occurred whilst he was working on a construction project at Werrington House, a seat of the Duke of Northumberland.  He left a widow and two small children.

A report appears in the Royal Cornwall Gazette, 26 July 1844
