Thomas EADY
« on: Thursday 27 November 14 01:38 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find a record of the arrival in Australia of Thomas EADY in about 1906-1909. He would have travelled with his wife, Nellie and son Thomas who was a baby - he turned one on the trip. They travelled from the UK. Thomas was born in Yorkshire in 1884. Any assistance would be gratefully appreciated. Maxell  :)

Do you have any idea of where they came to in Australia?
It would help.

Do you know in which Australian state Thomas and Nellie settled after arrival ?

There are three entries for -
Mr T Eady 24 miner      - all English - travelling Third Saloon
     Mrs T Eady 22 wife
     Miss Eady  2 child
on the Orontes arriving Melbourne 3/3/09 - the ship was going to Brisbane but the Eady family were marked as contracted to land Sydney.
The same details were recorded in Fremantle but on arrival in Sydney the passenger list is handwritten and brief
     Mr T Eady    British
Mrs F Eady  British                   and a few lines above listed with a group of children is
     Miss C Eady 6 child British   ???

Phillips in South Barrow, Somerset, Greenwood in Lambeth
Mitchell in Londonderry, McFarland in Drumneechy
Bale in Barnstaple, Devon and Richmond, Melbourne

Hi. Billyblue, we presumed that they were going to New South Wales. Beth42, we saw the same record you have but it lists a female child - the child was definitely a boy, also named Thomas. I will keep looking for any information that can assist. Thanks Ennael, I will check out that link. All assistance is much appreciated. Maxell :D

There are three Thomas Eady deceased in NSW between 1905 and 1983.

In 1936, 1955 and 1960.

Thomas Easy parents Jonathan & Mary Ann ref 36945/1960  Helensburgh
Thomas eady parents Thomas & Margaret ref 10227/1936 Helensburgh

This is from the online index to the NSW death registration  www.bdm.nsw.gov.au

Wollongong is a city 90 km south of Sydney which had a large coalmining industry and Helensburgh is a town near Wollongong.

Thanks, Thetowers, I don't know if it helps, but Thomas Eady's mother's name was Ann Elizabeth Eady. She died in Sept., 1890 in Royston, UK. Thanks again, Ennael - we now have a copy of that service record. What we really want is the name of the ship they came out on; I will have to do more digging - I am not convinced that they are the family on the Orontes. Thanks for your help. Maxell
