Harry Frederick Hart and his missing family!
« on: Saturday 04 October 14 15:35 BST (UK) »
Harry was born on 5 December 1890 as far as I am aware in Boston, Mass.

In 1900 he was in Connecticut but he married his wife Ruby (surname unknown, born around 1889 in California) some time before 1907 as they had a daughter, also Ruby born in California around 1907.  He enlists in California in 1917/1918.

I'm taking a long shot they married in California but I can't find the marriage so that's the first question.

Secondly the last time the family are together is the 1920 census where they are living in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Harry then turns up in Provo, Utah marrying as a single man in October 1923 to a Anna Leona Nelson.  It is definitely him as his birth date, birth place and parents names and birth places are correct.

I can't find his first wife or daughter post 1920 and by the time I get to 1930, Harry is living alone as a single man in Denver, Colorado.

So I have lost Ruby Snr, Ruby Jnr, Anna Leona and Harry dying so if anyone could find out what happened to them I would be grateful  ;D

Thanks

I see his WWI draft registration card, which mentions a wife and a child.  All men of a certain age were required to register for the draft, but it doesn't mean he enlisted with the military.  The 1930 census entry said that he was not a veteran.

It's possible that he never legally married the first wife or didn't marry her until after they had a child.

Leona Hart appears to be listed as divorced in the 1930 census in Provo, Utah with a 5 year old daughter.

Harry & Dorothy show up together in San Francisco city directories through 1948.

In the 1951 San Francisco city directory (the next one available online), there is an entry for Harry F. Hart, salesman for A.K. Lockhart, home 627 Taylor.  There is no mention of Dorothy in that entry, but there is a Mrs. Dorothy G. Hart listed at another address.  The 1953 San Francisco city directory has Harry at the same address as 1951, but no wife mentioned.  There were a Mrs. Dorothy Hart and a Dorothy listed at different addresses.  1958 city directory still has Harry F. in San Francisco, but no Dorothy Hart listed.
