freeBMD is showing the marriage of an Isabella Moscrop in Carlisle R.D. in the 3rd quarter of 1875.

On the same page they show the names of three women and only two men, so possibly the missing man's name is Thomas Steele?

According to a family tree entry Isabella Moscrop married Arthur Steel in 1875 (which would be the Carlisle 10b 710 entry - Sept 1875) and then Thomas Steel at Gretna Green, Dumfries-shire 10 May 1880.

Sandra

Added : Gretna Green Marriage Registers show the marriage Isabel Steel to Thomas Steel both of the Parish of Kirkandrews Cumberland - 10 May 1880
Witness George Moscrop and John Telford.

thank you

Sorry for any confusion, I meant to say Bewcastle, not Newcastle and Isabella Moscrop Steele was born in 1901 in Brampton, she is in the 1911 census with the family

Looking at the census, you guys are right, James's last name does look like Moscrop, but its so faded that it cannot be certified.

I think the best thing would be to get the certificates

Where did you find the tree?

If    it's the same one I've   found , it's on Ancestry ,   Arthur  Steel   dies  in 1878 ,  Isabella  and  Arthur    had  2  children  Jane  ,  1875 -1950, and Robert Arthur  1877-1972  There's  a picture of Isabella  and  one  of   her  daughter Jane   and  her  family
